hold the front page! we first got a listen to these cuts while washed up in an after the after a couple of weeks ago, a bit of sober investigation led us to a fiendish plot involving a host of anonymous, though very well known artists, all contributing straight up, in-the-moment club music of the highest calibre ! needless to say, we shook hands on what is promising to be a very memorable and collectible series�night parade based on the japanese folklore of the *night parade of one hundred demons* each release in the series will take the name of a demon/monster from folklore and a graphic artist is asked to interpret/re-imagine it in their own style - sleeves will be hand screen-printed & each release limited to 300 copies. the music is by an anonymous collection of producers from all over the world.

hot city orchestra is a reformation of a band, which was originally formed in 1998. at the age of 17, arno völker (einzelkind) and simon birkenfeld became friends and started making drum and bass music together. they toured all over germany with their record label and had residencies at robert johnson in offenbach and tanzhaus west in frankfurt. after gaining years of experience within the breakbeat scene, arno went on to become einzelkind with releases on playhouse, cocoon, white and his own imprints la peña, jax and pressure traxx as well as worldwide dj gigs. simon was still focusing on his breakbeat career for another year, making an album with a uk drum and bass legend, but it was never released. he stopped making music and started focusing on his career in pr and marketing, where he mostly worked on music and art projects. during this time, the long-time friends arno and simon came up with the idea to launch the blog-network-project www.disco-very. net now, 16 years later, after making first beats together, the boys are back! a tiny bit older, much wiser, more handsome and around 50 bpm slower.

*somebody* is the first single from the new aurra album *body rock* due out later this year on family groove records. once again the world gets to experience a lost disco-funk masterpiece providing another glimpse into the genius mind of slave founding-member steve washington & brides of funkenstein / p-funk singer sheila horne. body rock will be the second and final unearthing of the lost but found master tapes originally recorded for quincy jones qwest imprint in 1984. slap bass, heavy synths, linn drum, sultry vocals... this is modern funk at its finest!
the 24-track master tapes were transferred digitally and then mixed on an ssl board by kamal humphrey at his all-analog flying carpet studios in los angeles. the result is a full sound enhanced by the natural analog process using todays digital technology only when needed to clean up the files.
da-m-funk adds a bit of dirt and grime by putting his signature re-freak on the track. a confirmation from los angeles ambassador of boogie funk that this is in fact the the un-cut funk and nothing but the funk.

dissonant starts off this season 2014 in ibiza with talented spanish producer medu. this new ep meets the dissonant vision of adventurous and sensuous electronic music. medu�s minimal roots immerse us into wild energetic drums and organic details. shi-sei adventure into loose breakbeat flows with its central drum sample, constantly weaving textures and percussion in and out of the groove for a nerve-tingling trip. bronq has a more free-spirited drums approach,a more steady tech-house beat, with a bit of atmospheric sounds turns surprisingly this tune into futuristic carnival experience.

listening to the sound of konfetti klub ensemble creates associations of those sparkling drops that run down the side of an ice cold drink on hot summer days. it�s a very refreshing and delicious listening experience, it�s both stimulating and soothing. if you think the formula brass players + club groove is somewhat worn-out, you will be pleasantly surprised. pomelo comes with bouncy offbeat rhythms, and when the trombone hits in there�s clearly an air of balkan sound. however, around the middle of the track it turns into a joyful freestyle session. mollono.bass puts a bit more emphasis on beats, bass and pressure in his version, in other words: even a bit more emphasis on the dance floor. rotwein und sommerverbot gives a groovy hint why konfetti klub ensemble describe their sound as live brass house � it�s extremely jazzy and casual, a live session rather than a programmed arrangement. even more so schwankel, as it vibrates effortlessly between intricate musical deepness and sheer to-the-floor euphoria. last but not least there is a track exclusively for the digital release: stranddub � beach dub. let�s put it like that: there�s a damn good party happing at this beach.

as our true fans know, every now and then we leave our comfort zone to bring something else than techno. this season, we gave dib from italy the honor to be the unusual one. three tracks, three times basic, stripped down house that does well as a tool or a track in the early or deep hours of the night. or just for those people working hard at the office and wanting some deep house during their officework. all tracks have a very old skool vibe to it and breathe true deep house: not the filtered down vocal kind, but the breed that just lets a 909, 808 shine and some rhodes or warm analogue synths do the work. the first one is rather detroitish - with a nice acid stab and some strings setting the mood, the second one is more dance floor oriented and the third version is a bit of both. does it need to be said that dimitri andreas mastered it again? and that it is available on vinyl?

second reference of the spanish label sinerec. this time the hand of german quantec, momentarily abandons those atmospheres characteristics and leads to a more usual forceful style. a very clean and not too much saturation in style chords. spaces warm and very danceable. music definitely cheerful and very valid. with the chemist makes a turn to the more techno sounds where the baseline takes an important character in the composition of the track. depth flotation and lets get wasted, down a bit of character and are ideal companions in the suitcase of a dj for their musicality and cadence that will make sure, wonders on the dance floor.

keeping in line with the trademark birdsmakingmachine sound, comes the fifth release on their self-entitled label, bmm 004. with a more straight-to-the-point approach than its predecessor, the ep starts off on the dance floor, with rumbling bass lines and heavy metallic snares juggling with effects-laden delicacies on the a1s >ahora vengo<. the arrival of >ash but not arthur< on the a2 calms things down bit and takes the listener for a gentle journey through ambient pads and cleverly swinging hi hats, while on the flip, things get a little more bouncy in >oscars critical jack<, which is mostly due to the fact its main ingredient � the solid playful bass line � blends effortlessly with the higher frequency spices, keys, strings and rhythmic parts. the end credits roll down with >bonfume<, another relatively smooth yet jacking swinger that could either be used to kick it up a notch in a warm-up set or be danced to while finding yourself at an afterhour.

time to welcome more new, undiscovered talent to the fold, this time we give you sheffield producer thatmanmonkz with an amazing ep entitled please dont slip, trip or fall off. thatmanmonkz came to our attention last year when his track that would be alright appeared on tone control music. the low slung, bluesy inflections combined with moodymann-esqe vocals and deep pads had us instantly hooked so when he presented us with three brand new tracks for delusions of grandeur we literally bit his hand off.

maeve label honcho the drifter and co-emperor of the permanent vacation kingdom, benjamin fröhlich, team up for some rascal business. always quick to pull the sling shot out of the back pocket and hit you right between the eyes, the original version of -waterville- is full of hazy melodies, washed out bells and quirky arpeggios backed up with concrete drums for some extended dancefloor meditation. while the high tide mix wraps things up a bit with some more prominent drums and a little extra spice on the bassline. mysterious uk producer a sagittariun sculptures out of the original a breakbeat house track, that sounds like a hidden treasure from this short but influential period.

nelistening back, �interlude� will feel like the perfect opening to �skylax�. a jazzy encore crawls in, morphing into a skippy hip-hop instrumental with jason�s signature flourishes all over it. aptly named as it is, this is the breathing space between whatever came before in your day, and the eleven deep house gems that are to follow. speaking of, �the love� will have you gripped from the first bar. it glides the listener in, then subtly drops that signature, tightly-tuned bassline of jason�s and continues onto soulful vocals from there. �old dayz� touches on a bit of a nostalgic note. the spoken vox cuts harken back to 90s hip-hop joints, playing over a looped latin sample-led beat. from there, �rawkicks 2� shows jason�s rough and ready sampling style in action. a seemingly simple track, but one which has that special something which guarantees to keep people on the floor moving for its duration. �cut b� contrasts this nicely, being a much cleaner production with tight drum programming and synth work. that said, it still has the classic jg atmosphere we love. closing out the first half of the album, �definition� slows the pace ever so slightly, with its eternal pad structure that builds up the track�s momentum into something very mellow and deep.bringing in the second half of �skylax�, �john blue� takes things back a notch further. a deeper tune, yet one that shows off an uncharacteristically punchy bass hit from jason. �last night� is a track more reminiscent of jason�s first lost cuts ep on wax classic, sounding as if it had been freshly taken off an old tape with its sample-led beat and background hiss. the last four tracks of the album see a return to the �mastercuts� and �lovedits� series which fans will recognize from the �lost cuts� records, with �lovedits 7� and �mastercut 5� respectively. the former is a laid back female vocal edit with the entire suite of signature jg touches while the latter is a garage house hit more crafted for the club. �bb� brings the album to a close, twisting a disco/funksample over a pallet of drums and effects for the near six-minute duration of the track.all in all, this is the perfect follow up to jason�s debut album �313.4.ever�, with tracks for both the club and home listening. if you happened to miss the first album back in 2012, don�t forget that now you have the chance to grab it in a special double pack with �skylax� on cd!so, needless to say, this timeless record is a must purchase for all collectors and djs out there

dmom welcomes french talent flex for his debut with a massive big-room-track. the knocking kick introduces some fine tuned and arranged techno in a really classic sense and has the ability to become one of those secret weapons everybodys talking about when hearing it on some set. on top of this kyle geiger delivered a remix showing the technotic side of his soul after his recent more melodic appearance on cocoon s recent compialtion, as used to from him with a superb sounddesign and kind of remdinding on his previous works some time ago on drumcode. finally southeast-european techno-ambassador vegim appears to slow it down a bit, taking it to the groovy edge.

no doubt about it, hypeltd are on a bit of a roll at the moment, recent releases from the likes of joefarr, the analogue cops and marco bernardi have helped shape the hypercolour sub-label into a consistent purveyor of raw and rootsy techno music.

weve complied two blackman and maurice joshua productions for the fourth house of trax 12inch. its a bit of a dirty one... to say the least. althought more polictically incorrect then a dutch politician, these humourous trax will set fire to the speakers for the right reasons too. the little known blackman had a 1993 release with >beat that bitch with a bat<, a song which later got popularized by johnny dangerous. the original 12inch got pressed up in small quantities and is available for the first time in 17 years. on the flip theres both the vocal and instrumental version of maurice joshuas (with hot hula hands) >i got a big dick<, which originally came out in 1988, as the a-side of his more known >this is acid<. both tracks are pretty rare these days and will still go down a storm on the dancefloor.

it has been a while since jaxson & david keno have been on keno records but it was worth the wait. calippo is an absolute banger. driven by this oldschool deep bassline climaxing in a breakdown filled with detroit strings this track already rocked many dancefloors all over the world. oliver schories takes it down a notch, gets rid of the strings and takes it into a more melancholic direction but still very danceable. the remix from adrian martin pushes calippo even a bit more in the tech house direction.

pulsing, soulful house music from matthias wagner on the newly-founded noir et son imprint. skittering jams with a hint of jazz and left-field to keep things that little bit off-kilter. a proper bomb!

after 20 years of experience, gary martin couldnt resist a 12 inch that is also the 50th release for teknotika: a label from detroit that didnt exactly stick with the game when it switched to the mp3 format. *basking in blackness* is a composition of textured broken beat then classic four on the floor old school soul. *synthotika* is what would happen if a synthasizer could take over an orchestra. a track inspired by detroit peers no doubt. *every bit as beautiful* goes sensative deep house piano, a lil latin percussion and soaring eno-esque synths to top it off. the title is a bit sarcastic, let us face it, there is no life after techno!

tartelets latest comes from glenn astro. currently residing in essen, he has spent a bit more than half his life djing and producing, first in the realm of hip-hop and more recently with an ear toward dance music. after his first releases in this style in 2011 and 2012, glenn really went for it in 2013 with a trio of eps that showed hip-hops soul and house musics drive are in no way mutually exclusive. this 26-year-old may embrace the latter these days, but when you close your eyes and let his gritty low-end do its dirty work, you will hear plenty of the formers bump still kicking around in there.
